International Surfing Day – Surfrider Atlantic Canada Film Screening

Surfrider Atlantic Canada and Patagonia Halifax are stoked to be marking International Surfing Day with a special community mixer and film screening of The Yin and Yang of Gerry Lopez. Due to the generous support of Patagonia Halifax, the event is free and we will have complimentary refreshments available (Cove Kombucha and Vandal doughnuts) for you to enjoy. Plus, attendees who make a donation to support Surfrider Atlantic Canada will be entered to win some awesome prizes (provided by Patagonia, Yeti, Rip Curl, and Finisterre… and maybe more).

About International Surfing Day

Launched by The Surfrider Foundation (USA) and partners in 2005 to raise awareness and support beaches and coastal environments, International Surfing Day (ISD) is a day to celebrate the love of surfing, which native Hawaiians invented and know as he‘e nalu.

This year, ISD coincides with National Indigenous Peoples Day, which is held annually on the summer solstice and is a day to recognize and celebrate the traditions, cultures, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Métis. On this day and always, we believe it is important to acknowledge that the land and waters on which we live, work, and play in Atlantic Canada are the traditional and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq and other Indigenous Peoples who have lived here since time immemorial. We recognize their enduring connection to the land, waters, and community, and we express gratitude and respect as we continue to learn and live together.
