The Sisters Standing Together Campaign brings two powerful movements together to unify and strengthen our community efforts in acknowledging and honouring missing and murdered Indigenous women in New Brunswick.

The Sisters Standing Together Campaign is an official collaboration between the Wolastoqiyik Sisters in Spirit Campaign and UNB’s Mi’kmaq-Wolastoqey Centre’s Red Shawl Campaign, which are both devoted to bringing awareness to the missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA in Canada.

“In previous years, these campaigns were organized as separate, but mutually supportive, endeavours,” said Amanda Reid, UNB’s Piluwitahasuwin (assistant vice-president of Indigenous engagement). “Our aim is to increase public education and commemoration. We hope more community members will join us as both of these campaigns work together in sharing the same message. We have united to show solidarity.”

During the month of October, members of the community are invited to participate in a series of events that are being planned as part of the campaign.

“Our goal for the Sisters Standing Together Campaign is to strengthen our efforts in providing hope and healing for kinships, and to reclaim justice for these women and their families,” said Ms. Reid. “Let us not forget the Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA who have gone before us and uphold the tireless efforts of those who continue to advocate.”

During the month of October, there are events being held throughout the province as part of the Sisters Standing Together Campaign.
