NunatuKavut Government: 254th anniversary of the British-Inuit Treaty of 1765
21 August 2019,
On or about August 21, 1765 our ancestors entered into an important agreement with the British in Chateau Bay, Labrador.
This agreement was reached to find peace and protect our rights to self-government, harvest of wildlife and natural resources and commercial right of trade. NunatuKavut Inuit are the current holders and beneficiaries of this Treaty.
Today, we celebrate this Treaty that recognized and protected our rights as Inuit over 250 years ago.
