Legal advocate takes up case of First Nations woman locked in Turkish prison – APTN

A Yukon woman from the Carcross First Nation who is currently in a Turkish prison now has a legal advocate fighting for her return to Canada.

Tracy White has been in contact with the Canadian consulate in Turkey and is now getting briefed on the well being of the 38-year-old Charman Smith.

After getting off the phone with officials, White sighs with relief after receiving news that the consulate has just completed one its visits with Smith earlier in the day and she has agreed to allow her to advocate and speak on her behalf.

“It’s going to provide her with the opportunity to leave Turkey and come back to Canada,” White told APTN News.
