Helping First Nations communities reach economic stability by stimulating economic development will be key in improving the lives of Indigenous Atlantic Canadians. So is providing the funding supports necessary to see that happen.

Who cares most about it and why?

First Nations communities. John Paul, the executive director of the Atlantic Policy Congress of First Nations, has said that Indigenous people have a goal of becoming the middle class. In many cases, what’s stopping them is economic stability — a lack of economic development within First Nations and the jobs that come with it. But the impacts are far-reaching. Without that stability, some First Nations have difficulty providing the basics of life — safe drinking water, suitable housing, education — for their members.
