Government Looking to Address Indigenous Underrepresentation in Legal Community – VOCM

Indigenous people in Newfoundland and Labrador who are interested in pursuing an education in Law, will have more opportunities available to them thanks to an announcement made by provincial Justice Minister Andrew Parsons this morning in Corner Brook.

VOCM’s Gerri Lynn Mackey is on assignment on the west coast.

Beginning in the fall of 2019, the University of Saskatchewan Law will have two enrollment seats reserved for Indigenous students from this province.

The announcement coincides with an Indigenous Leaders Roundtable at the Premier’s office in the Sir Richard Squires Building.

Parsons says the relationship aims to address the under-representation of Indigenous people in the legal profession, whether it’s on the bench or any other division of the Justice Department.
