First Mile Connectivity Consortium executive board members, Susan O’Donnell (Vice-President) and Brian Beaton (Treasurer), met with two members of the Review of the Canadian Communications Legislative Framework Panel. The meeting took place in Halifax on Wednesday, Oct 3 and included two secretariat members from the two federal departments responsible for these communication legislative acts, ISED and Heritage.

Panel Review members, Monique Simard and Monica Song, provided some background about their work and the process they are using to gather information for their consultation stage. Other panel members were hosting meetings in other centres. A total of six one day meetings with a variety of invited groups were taking place while the public call for submissions was underway.

The federal government announced the creation of an expert panel in June of this year to review the suite of legislation that governs the telecommunications and broadcasting sectors, with a view to ensuring that the Canadian communication sector achieves world-class standards.

FMCC presentation to the panel members included a number of recommendations based on the information prepared and shared over the past few years to First Nations, ISED, CRTC and in our research publications. Visit 2018-10-03-Halifax-reduced to view a PDF of our slide presentation.
