Blue Jays help bring ball back to Abegweit First nation – Peicanada.com
Blue Jays fever took over at the Wellness Centre at Abegweit First Nation Sunday afternoon as the community gathered to celebrate the fact they were one of 15 communities across Canada who received a $70,000 grant to renovate the ballfield.
“This will allow us to upgrade the field so we will be able to not only run a good ball program of our own, but also play host to other organizations in the area,” Councillor Jacob Jadis said.
The grant came from Jays Care Foundation and the announcement was made on air just before the Jays game. Dozens of community members were on hand for the announcement and a loud cheer went up when the community name flashed on the screen.
The ball field, which sits in the centre of the Scotchford community, has been around for over three decades.
