Anthropologist Who Paved Way for Labrador Inuit Land Claims Passes Away – VOCM

The Nunatsiavut Government is offering its condolences on the passing of Carol Brice-Bennett, an anthropologist who played a major role in working towards the Labrador Inuit Land Claims Agreement.

She passed away on Sunday in Montreal, surrounded by her family.

Nunatsiavut President Johannes Lampe says Brice-Bennett was was instrumental in gathering much of the data that helped pave the way for the Labrador Inuit Land Claims Agreement.

Brice-Bennett studied anthropology at McGill University in Montreal and at MUN. She was best known for the study “Our Footprints are Everywhere: Inuit land use and occupancy in Labrador”. (1977)
